Tips for Landing Your Dream Tech Job in 2025

I will preface this by stating that job market is quite tough currently than it was years ago when I started. Covid, inflation, layoffs, and the rapid increase in AI & automation has skyrocketed the competition so much it almost feels like a joke.
It's no longer enough to just have the right qualification. You also need to stand out among a huge list of applicants. Many of them are equally qualified, if not more so than you.
This situation is even worse for remote work. Remote work has turned into a double-edged sword with companies having access to a global talent pool. Do you see the the problem in it?
This means you're no longer competing just with local candidates but with skilled people from around over the world. On top of that, businesses are cutting costs by prioritizing contract work over full-time positions. Honestly, for most people, job security feels like a luxury.
And let's not forget employer expectations. The days of landing a job by simply meeting the listed qualifications are long gone. Companies now want multi-skilled candidated. Developers who know UI/UX, marketers who can code, writers who know SEO inside and out and so on and forth.
It's frustrating, right? But it's the reality.
The worst part? Applying through job boards is a soul-numbing work. You send out dozens, maybe hundreds of CV's. You'll get a a dozen replies and 2 interviews going nowhere. (Not a joke. Though, I wish it was.)
The old methods don't work as well anymore. They had their time and unfortunately that has passed. Which means that you now need a different approach. One such that it doesn't rely solely on luck or hoping a recruiter notices you in a pile of resumes.

The old methods aren't completey bogus. There is some merit to them. The problem is that there's too much noise. It's hard to seperate what really matters among the sea of bajillion tips and tricks.
And no, it's also not about luck or connections, it's about making the right moves. Okay, the last part was a lie. Connections matter very much. However, if you're reading this, you either don't have them or simply don't know their how-to's.
If you are anxious or panicking, just don't (disclaimer: not a medical advice). You still have plenty of time to work on it.
Forget the same old advice you've heard countless times and consider my simple but effective approach.

No, of course I did not and by now, you must be thinking it'd be hard to secure a job. Let alone a dream job.
Before you jump into applications, let's talk about something important: Is this job really your dream? Please, don't let my words discourage you. I believe that it's better to have the full picture than spout nonsense in the name of optimism. Understanding this will go a long way, as ignorance is worse than not facing reality.

Once you have your dream job defined, we can then work on realizing it. Here are a few things that will work regardless.
1. Do Some Practical Work
Create sample projects and practice what you've learned.
This shows you can actually do the work, not just talk about it.
2. Build Portfolio
Build a portfolio by sharing your projects on GitHub, Hugging Face, etc.
A portfolio lets potential employers see your work. If you want something that just works, follow this step-by-step guide to create a strong GitHub portfolio. It doesn't need any grand projects, just enough to showcase your skills.
3. Create LinkedIn Profile
Craft a great LinkedIn profile.
This is often the first place employers look, so make it shine.
4. Create a Killer Resume
Design a strong CV (resume).
For goodness sake, don't get bogged down by making it perfect. Good enough is perfect here.

Scoring a dream job is not much difficult; what matters is how much effort you put into finding it? What do you have to do? Just spent pretty much time on research the current market trends, technologies, and the most emerging fields. For example, if you want to become a software developer then check the cutting edge technologies in domains like web development, data engineering, and many more.
After that you should examine yourself, whether the dream job is really your dream job. If you are not interested in working with data related fields, then you should not pursue them, because you may face some difficulties. Therefore, it is better to choose what you trully loves.
Once you have decided, evaluate your strengths and weaknesses in that particular job. If you have some weaknesses, put in a lot of effort to pratice those skills and work on some sample projects. Once you have completed your projects, the next step is to create an online portfolio. For tech related jobs it is Github. Upload your projects there.
Then, create your profile on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is basically a professional social media platform where you can create a free account and you can add your professional information including experiences, jobs, and projects. The last step is to create your CV or resume the correct way, since a wrong CV can hurt more than it can help.
Now, after completing all the above steps, you can search for jobs and apply.
